What you should know about facial Injections and why fall is a good time to get them

The inside scoop on facial injections and why fall is the best time for a refresh

Which injectables trend is right for you?
Fall in Montreal is breathtaking. The leaves change colours. Cooler weather means a cozy wardrobe update layering your favorite fall pieces. It also happens to be the perfect time of the year for an aesthetic refresh. Jessica Brown, an experienced, qualified Nurse Injector at Clinique K, shares several current trends in the world of medical aesthetics. Most importantly, why the Fall season is the best season for injections.

A greater emphasis on the eyes
Recently, Jessica has noticed an increase in patients consulting for periorbital injections such as crow’s feet, under eye hollowness, and pronounced glabella lines (between one’s eyebrows). “Many of our clients have been working from home throughout the pandemic, which means countless Zoom meetings seeing their own face mirrored back at them onscreen. They are beginning to notice imperfections.” She adds, “Everyone is wearing masks, so there is a greater emphasis on the eye area. The eyes are so important: we smile with our eyes, we look tired with our eyes. It’s not an area that should not be overlooked.”

The solution is several small doses of neuromodulator injections around the eye area and the forehead, a treatment that should recur every 4-6 months. Carefully targeted neuromodulators help diminish existing wrinkles but also help to prevent new ones. Some patients may require the addition of dermal fillers to plump up the under-eye area, resulting in a natural refreshed appearance.

Jessica has also seen an interest from patients regarding the ‘eyebrow lift’ trend. This lift is achieved with neuromodulators, and is a simple procedure that gently widens and brightens the eye area in a natural way.

A prettier pout with a “lip flip”
Lips age differently than other parts of the face and that’s one reason the “lip flip” has gained popularity in recent years. Clients have expressed that, with age, they have noticed their lips get thinner, giving an appearance that their lips are inverting towards the mouth. The most common procedure for the lip area is injectables used with dermal fillers, but a beautiful “lip flip” is achieved with neuromodulator injections.

“We inject a couple units on each side of the upper lip, near the crevice of the cupid’s bow,” explains Jessica. “This gives the lip a lift, a little height, turning it outwards.” Jessica adds that the lip flip is not only for older clients. She sees younger women with thin lips benefitting from this trend as well.

A prevention plan for dynamic wrinkles
An important part of Jessica’s injection practice is education. She sees many clients in their 20s and 30s asking for injectables as part of a wrinkle prevention plan.

Depending on genetics, environment, age, and lifestyle, a client might have a combination of dynamic and static wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles like crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles appear when you move your facial muscles. Whereas, static wrinkles are deeper, marked into the skin like scars. Temporary injectables like dermal fillers and neuromodulators can help treat lines and creases on the face in their earlier stages before they become static. “For younger patients, this is often referred to as ‘baby botox’, as very little product is used. This treatment is intended to slow the process of repeated facial movements that in time can leave lasting lines. It is a natural choice for women who are thinking long-term.”

Considering the Fall for Injections
The Fall months are especially busy as they lead into the holiday season. Popular procedures include lip fillers, injections to define cheekbones, jawline contouring, and more. “Our clients plan procedures in the fall because they want to look and feel their best for the holidays.” She adds that now, with mask wearing and working from home, any necessary healing time can be carried out more discreetly.

Fall is also a great season to try Belkyra, a non-surgical injectable that reduces moderate to severe fat deposits under the chin. This permanent fat dissolving treatment trending especially after a year of quarantine Scheduling this type of treatment during the fall and winter months is best as swelling does occur and can last for a couple of days.

No matter which trend you choose, a consultation with a Nurse Injector can make all the difference. “Each client receives an expert evaluation, during which we talk about objectives and what is realistic for their unique situation. Everyone we meet leaves with a personalized strategy.” explains Jessica. “Above all, we make sure that the results are natural looking. We want our clients to head into the winter months with a healthy, natural glow.”
